A safe and fun travel on board MV 2GO Maligaya

MV 2GO Maligaya, the fastest, largest and state-of-the art roll-on roll-off passenger (ropax) and cargo vessel sailing the Philippines waters, made its maiden voyage arrival at Pier 5 of Cebu City on Monday, May 31, 2021.

With a height equaling that of a 10-storey building (or 29 meters), the ship was a sight to behold in 2GO’s signature colors of white, light blue and hot pink.

The sixth passenger ship in the fleet of 2GO Travel, the Philippines’ largest premier sea travel provider, MV 2GO Maligaya carries a passenger capacity of 800 and more container capacity.

The ship, like the rest in the 2GO Travel fleet, also undergoes regular disinfection and sanitation.

Accommodation types include the state room, business premium, tourist premium, business class, tourist class, and the tatami.

A grand lobby welcomes passengers the moment they step inside the ship. MV 2GO Maligaya offers cruise ship-amenities of international standards, starting with its wide range of accommodation, which includes the state room, business premium, tourist premium, business class, tourist class, and the tatami.

To further ensure a worry-free, comfortable and safe trip, MV 2GO Maligaya has restaurants, a salon, 24-hour bar, café, convenience store, clinic, prayer room, souvenir shop, even a KTV room.

At the media conference shortly after the maiden voyage arrival, Dan Fernan, Vice President and Head of Sea Solutions for 2GO Group, Inc., cited the importance of passenger liners, such as MV 2GO Maligaya in linking Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao especially as the country continues to cope with the effects of the pandemic.

“At the time of the pandemic, 2GO operated nonstop because it’s very important that the essential goods, such as medicines, will flow between the islands. 2GO played a key part in that,” he added.

Fernan said that while 2GO also operates smaller vessels, huge ones such as M.V. 2GO Maligaya are ideal for the Philippines because “they are faster, ensuring more frequency in the transport of both essential and fast-moving consumer goods.”

Bea Rodriguez, 2GO Corporate Communications Manager, for her part, said 2GO is now a subsidiary of SM Investments Corporation (SMIC), one of the largest and leading Philippine conglomerates with investments in banking, retail, property and now shipping.

“Nag expand na po si SM and we’re very happy that 2GO is now a subsidiary of the SM Group,” she added.

Rodriguez said 2GO is the largest logistics and transportation provider in the Philippines with five business units: 2GO Sea Solutions, 2GO Special Containers and Value-Added Services, 2GO Logistics, 2GO Distribution and 2GO Express.

“We specialize in transport delivery solutions on shipping so we’re the only logistics company with one of the largest shipping fleets, ensuring an unhampered flow of goods nationwide as well as providing the best sea travel experience here in the country,” she added.

Welcoming the arrival of 2GO Maligaya’s maiden voyage, Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 7 Director Shalimar Hofer Tamano underscored the significant role of Cebu as a maritime hub.

DOT 7 Director Shalimar Hofer Tamano

“As they say, all roads lead to Cebu […] this is a repeat of history as we are celebrating 500 years of Christianity and it started with a ship […] Cebu is a maritime hub which you can compare to Singapore or Hong Kong. What leads people to Cebu is not only the infrastructure that we have, or the business acumen of Cebuanos. It’s also because of our heritage and culture. The room for investments is limitless and the room for travel investments is limitless as well. Boarding this vessel, we marveled at its size and features. We congratulate 2GO for MV Maligaya,” Tamano said.

Servicing the Manila-Cebu-Cagayan de Oro route, MV 2GO Maligaya will operate round trips twice a week, leaving Manila every Wednesdays and Sundays.
