Somewhere deep within the corners of social media lurks a shameless but covert business of online selling, not of the usual goods or beauty products—but of babies!
This Sunday (February 24) in The Atom Araullo Specials, Atom probes deeper into this appalling practice perpetrated by “Adoption Pages” in Facebook. He meets 20-year-old “Christine,” who admits to being a B-Mom or Birth Mom—a person selling her new-born. Her baby’s father allegedly left her and she’d rather sell her two-month old offspring for P35,000, than raise the child on her own.
While The Atom Araullo Specials team is working on this special report, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) uncovered this illegal practice and organized an entrapment operation. They arrested a group that included a mother and an agent or middleman, who were caught selling an 11-day-old baby for P40,000.
Purchasing a baby through online transaction is highly dangerous since the process circumvents all lawful proceedings and documentation. In the absence of legal and verified information, both babies and prospective adoptive parents are put into certain risks. There’s also a potential danger that these babies may be sold to cybersex dens and used for child pornography.
Go online with Atom Araullo as he investigates these alarming and shady baby transactions in social media and even in the barangays.
