              Everyone goes through bad days. And while we have different ways to manage these terrible times, we share one common mood booster: food.

              The act of eating itself is comforting enough for most of us. While for others, it is what they remember while eating that makes the difference. Here are five comfort foods that are sure to make you shake off those blah days.

Arroz caldo

              Nothing beats the perfect combination of hot rice porridge and rainy weather. Arroz caldo, compared to an ordinary lugaw, is cooked with chicken pieces. This meaty rice porridge, introduced by Chinese traders ages ago, is one of the best comfort foods. Arroz caldo is often served to sick and bedridden patients, too. Fight off the chills brought by the cold season with the warmth of this special lugaw that reminds you of the taste of home.

              While you enjoy crunching nuts as the act clears your head off things, realize that nuts are high-fiber snacks that regulate your sugar and reduce the risk of heart diseases. Who would not want these hearty and healthy treats?  Plus, you can pick from a wide variety of nuts: pistachio, almond, peanut, cashew, walnut, and more!

Chocolates

              To quote the spoken word poet Sarah Kay, “There is no heartbreak that chocolate can’t fix.” The sweet tooth among us will definitely agree. Eating chocolates can make people happy. Chocolates release endorphins, one of the chemicals responsible for relieving stress. The best part is that chocolate can be found in many food products, such as pastries, ice cream, and bars, among others. It’s happiness in one bite.

Pizza

Who can resist this tasty, all-day (breakfast to midnight snacks) food of Italian origin? Thick or thin crust, with or without pineapple, and with your choice of toppings, a slice or two of pizza can fill that hollow in your stomach.

              They’re perfect as after-school or after-office snacks. So, if you miss those times when you were free to mingle with people without worrying about spreading or catching the virus, go ahead and buy those fish balls. And don’t forget the sweet and spicy sauce.
