AN ESSAY WRITING CONTEST CELEBRATING 500 YRS. OF CEBUANO HEROISM

Palm Grass The Cebu Heritage Hotel, in partnership with the Department of Education Region 7 and others, held the virtual on-the-spot essay writing contest with the theme “500 Years of Cebuano Heroism.”
The contest was broadcasted live today through Palm Grass The Heritage Hotel’s Facebook page at 1:30 p.m. There were 13 participants, grades seven to 12 students from nine different public and private schools in the island of Cebu.
The specific topic was given during the contest proper: “How can today’s leaders be heroes like Lapulapu and Leon Kilat?”
Virtual exhibit of entries will be from July 16 to July 31, 2021 wherein there will be a Netizens’ Choice Award for the entry with the most number of reactions. The actual exhibit will be at Palm Grass Hotel on the same dates.
The panel of judges includes Connie Fernandez of Philippine Daily Inquirer, Lucky Malicay of The Freeman, Max Limpag of MyCebu.ph, Michelle So of SunStar Cebu, and Dr. Rene Escalante of National Historical Commision of the Philippines.
The judges are to give their impression on the essays during the presentation of entries on July 16, 2021.
This event, in celebration of Cebuano heroism, is in partnership with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, National Quincentennial Committee, Museo Sugbo, Central Visayas Association of Museums, and Diyandi Heritage Center.
Announcement of winners will be on July 27, 2021 during the celebration of Cebuano hero Leon Kilat’s 148th birthday.
