The “Abtik Pas Kilat” stage play by Bag-ong Teatro Junquera will be shown for free at Cogon-Ramos Gymnasium this May 1, 2019.
“Abtik Pas Kilat” is a full-length play about two children from Kamagayan, Gen. Junquera Street who got transported to 1898 to eventually meet Cebu hero Leon Kilat and participate in the 1898 Cebu revolution.
Earlier this month, Bag-ong Teatro Junquera Production Team, stakeholders and Cogon Ramos Barangay Captain Omar Durano decided to show the Abtik pas Kilat play at the Cogon Ramos gym on May 1, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Bag-ong Teatro Junquera, a newly-established, non-profit grassroots community theater was launched recently; and successfully staged the historical-musical debut project “Abtik Pas Kilat” last April 1-2 of 2019 at the Fr. Albert Van Gansewinkel Hall of University of San Carlos.
The staging of the play was made possible with the full support of the partnership of Palm Grass The Cebu Heritage Hotel, University of San Jose Recoletos, University of the Visayas, University of San Carlos and five barangays of Gen. Junquera St.: (Kamagayan, Kalubihan, San Antonio, Sta. Cruz, Cogon-Ramos).
The stakeholders named the group “Bag-ong Teatro Junquera” invoking the importance of the very first theater in the province of Cebu which was founded by Governor General Inocencio Junquera in the 1895.
“Abtik Pa’s Kilat” is a story written by UP student, Decelle Marie Suarez and was jointly directed by University of San Carlos students Jed Nicole Alerta and Katipunero descendant Clouie Monsanto.
More restaging is to be expected from this group of theater art advocates in the future.
