Ring in the Christmas season and say “Merry Coffee” with Starbucks


Coffee giant Starbucks sets the holiday mood with its “Merry Coffee” campaign, bringing in every coffee lover’s old and new favorites.

First up, of course, is that one Starbucks item everyone wants to tick off their Christmas wish list: the planner. Also available this year is the travel organizer which Starbucks introduced last year.

Jo-Ann Ramos, Starbucks Philippines marketing manager, and her team unveiled Starbucks’ exciting Christmas offerings in a gathering with Cebu media and bloggers on Oct. 30.

Emphasizing that Starbucks started the planner craze in the Philippines, Ramos said that the Starbucks planners as well as the travel organizers have become not just collector’s items but are also perfect for gifting. This is because both are of premium quality, making them ideal Christmas presents for family, friends and loved ones.

The 2020 Starbucks planner comes in two colors, especially produced for Starbucks Philippines: Pink Berry, which is a dainty, soft pink and the ultra-practical Frost Gray.

The planner bears an embossed image of the ubiquitous siren’s face with a gold crown for Pink Berry and the siren’s tail with a cup for Frost Gray.

The travel organizers, which also have the siren images on the cover, come in two hues: Neo Mint and Coffee.

“These are vibrant, modern, Instagrammable colors,” Ramos said.

The travel organizer has also several slots for IDs, cards, receipts, even your phone.

Keeping things all the more chic is the all-suede pouch for the planner, an improvement from last year’s edition which was made of canvas. Both the planner and travel organizer also contain a bookmark and a pack of stickers of the icons representing the core coffees that Starbucks carries. Aside from providing space for jotting down one’s daily tasks and schedules, the pages also features some interesting coffee trivia.

Joining the global initiative for sustainability, Starbucks made sure that this campaign is reflected in its products. Thus, an important feature that Ramos highlighted is that both the planner and the travel organizer “have high quality bonded leather covers, which are made from pre-consumer cowhide fibers infused with natural latex that came from Hevea trees, without harming the trees.”

According to Starbucks, the planner and travel organizer are manufactured in Valencia, Spain. They are produced in a facility certified by the Forest Stewardship Council and printed on FSC-certified paper. FSC is an independent, non-government, not for profit organization which promotes the responsible management of the world’s forests.

If you weren’t too keen on getting a planner or travel organizer the past years, now might be a good time to start. For every order of any handcrafted beverage in Large, Grande or Venti, you get one sticker. Just collect 18 stickers to claim a planner or an organizer. Sticker collecting starts Nov. 2 and will run until January 7, 2020. Using the Starbucks mobile app to collect e-stickers is also encouraged.

Eat, drink and be merry

Aside from the hugely popular planners and organizers, Starbucks also rolled out its lineup of Christmas drinks, food items and merchandise to make the holidays even merrier.

Roland Parcutela, Starbucks Philippines assistant manager for brand and marketing retail, introduced both the Christmas drinks and merchandise, starting with the Wishing Star Dark Mocha, a rich chocolate mocha drink topped with green tea whipped cream and a sprinkle of star-shaped crisps. Another must-try is the Holiday French Vanilla Latte, which uses blue whipped cream with snowflake-shaped cereal toppings. All-time favorites Peppermint Mocha and Toffee Nut Crunch Latte will also be available starting Nov. 2.

For collectors of anything Starbucks, there will be a Polar Bearista, Christmas tumblers and reusable cups, new designs of the You Are Here mugs for Manila and Cebu, a collaboration with outdoor brand Stanley and US brand Stojo, which produces collapsible cups. Another exciting collaboration is with Belgian fashion powerhouse, Diane von Furstenberg, which will be exclusively available in Starbucks Reserve stores.

In celebration of Starbucks Philippines’ 22nd anniversary, four new items will be available: a stainless steel tumbler, a ceramic mug with a crown lid, the winter snowflake design and the double-wall glass mug.

“There will also be a girl and boy Bearista celebrating the colorful culture of Mindanao,” Parcutela said.

Starbucks is also offering 13 Christmas food items this year. These include the returning favorites, chicken fajita roll, choco chip overload cookie and chocolate crepe cake as well as three additional cakes, the Belgian chocolate cake, cinnamon swirl cheesecake and white chocolate dream cake.

Explaining the Merry Coffee campaign, Percutela said it is their “salutation to the Christmas season.”

“In Starbucks, coffee is the catalyst of the season. We celebrate Christmas through our coffee beverages. So, expect our partners (baristas) to greet everyone a ‘Merry Coffee’ starting November 2,” he said.
