Pass the microphone, get those songbooks ready, and prepare for a laughter- and music-filled time as Cignal Entertainment and TV5 re-introduce the pioneering videoke game show from the 1990s, “Sing Galing, the Original Videoke ng Bansa.”

The show is for all Filipinos, 18 to 60 years old, who love to sing and know the song lyrics by heart.

Touted as the first of its kind in the country and in Asia when it first aired in the 90s, “Sing Galing” was an award-winning videoke show hosted by Allan K and Ai-Ai delas Alas that went on to launch the showbiz careers of some of its contestants.

The re-energized version will choose its BidaaOke Star of the Night from three contestants or “singtestants” who will challenge one another in terms of mastery of song lyrics. The winner will compete all the way to the grand finals.

The show features three Sing Masters, hosts Randy Santiago, Donita Nose, and K Brosas, as well as three members of the jury known as Juke Bosses—Original Pilipino Music hitmakers Rey Valera, Ronnie Liang, and Jessa Zaragoza.

At the recent media con with Cebu’s Entertainment Group, K told Click Cebu that with “Sing Galing,” they are looking for a contestant with an extensive knowledge of songs across all genres.

‘Yung singtestant na maraming alam na kanta. Hindi kailangan ang pataasan ng boses or pagalingan ng vibrato, ganern. O nagbulwak ng bahay bata na birit,” K said.

“Tsaka minsan kailangan may attitude, na kahit di nya alam ang kanta, akala mo alam nya,” the singer-comedian added.

Jessa, for her part, feels fortunate to be chosen as part of “Sing Galing,” specifically as one of its Juke Bosses.

“Sobrang saya. I’m very blessed na napasama ako dito sa bagong ‘Sing Galing.’ Syempre trabaho to pero pakiramdam naming lahat, hindi kami masyadong nagta-trabaho kasi masaya ‘yung taping namin lagi. Tsaka nakakatuwa talaga ‘yung mga singtestants kaya sana masubaybayan nila araw-araw ‘yung mga lalabas sa ‘Sing Galing,'” she said.

Agreeing with K, Jessa said they are looking for someone who has showmanship.

“Yung tipong kahit di nya masyadong alam ‘yung kanta, lalaban sya. So hindi to pataasan ng boses o, birit birit. Kailangan talaga meron kang personality at kumbaga, game ka. Fun, fun, fun lang talaga,” she added.

Aside from the “Sing Galing” competition among singtestants in the studio, netizens can also take part in the “Sing Galing” digiverse to be hosted by Viral Zinger Zendee.

By reviving “Sing Galing,” TV5 wants to give families and friends a chance to bond through songs in their homes as well as bring respite to everyone during these uncertain times.

Catch “Sing Galing, Original Videoke Kantawanan ng Bansa,” Monday to Friday at 6:30 p.m. on TV5.
